The Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling
(Year three of BSc (Hons) Integrative Counselling)
This year is comprised of twelve weekends and four separate seminar days. It is for people who have completed the Matrix Diploma course, or an equivalent training and who may be seeking one or more of the following:
- Further development of theoretical underpinning of practice
- Employment as a counsellor in an agency or in private practice
- University credits and a BSc (Hons) degree in Integrative Counselling.
Entry requirements are:
- Must be 25 years of age
- Completion of the Matrix Diploma course or the equivalent
- Can show learning ability to work at a Higher Education level 3 i.e. show an ability to develop a rigorous approach to the acquisition of a broad base of knowledge and skills, be able to critically review and create a coherent body of knowledge and skills suitable for own individual work context and personality, make reasoned judgements and direct own learning
- One character reference and one professional reference
At interview the applicant must show:
- Motivation and commitment to learning and self-development
- The ability and willingness to cope with the academic and experiential components of the course
- Commitment to work to ethical standards of supervision and anti-oppressive practice
Training methods include:
- Discussion time
- Experiential exercises
- Didactic teaching
- Role play
- Practice in small groups
- Skills practice
Written work includes:
- Personal learning journal.
- 1 essay and 1 research project
- Written self assessment
- Case study
- 30 minute presentation
Counselling practice and supervision:
Students will be expected to seek out opportunities for counselling practice. Staff will give guidance and help in doing this. Supervision requirements are one and a half hours per month. Matrix recommends that students have one hour fortnightly during training. Help is available from the Director of Training as how to arrange this and what it entails.
Successful completion of this year is achieved by:
- 80% attendance
- All written work at pass level
- Completion of 150 hours of supervised counselling practice
- Completion of 35 hours of personal therapy hours.
- External assessment interview
- Entry into the Advanced Diploma is available for those who have not completed their counselling practice hours by the end of the Diploma year
