The Matrix Core Programmes


  • Matrix Certificate in Integrative Counselling Skills and year 1 of BSc (Hons) Integrative Counselling (Middlesex University)
  • Matrix Diploma in Integrative Counselling and year 2 of BSc (Hons) Integrative Counselling (Middlesex University)
  • Matrix Advanced Diploma and year 3 of BSc (Hons) Integrative Counselling (Middlesex University)

Matrix has two venues where training takes place.

  • The Steiner School, Hospital lane, Norwich NR1 2HW.
  • Hill View Business Park, Claydon, Ipswich IP6 OAJ.

Applicants will do their training in one of these two venues. Three programmes run concurrently. Extra optional training days and short courses may take place in one venue only. All training takes place at weekends.

Training days run from 9.30am – 5.30pm

Completing the Matrix Certificate Course achieves the following:

  • Matrix Certificate in Integrative Counselling Skills.

Joining the university programme will also gain you:

  • 120 university credits
  • Entry into the second year of the BSc degree programme

Completing the Matrix Diploma achieves the following:

  • Matrix Diploma in Integrative Counselling

Joining the university programme through the Accreditation of Prior Learning scheme will also gain you:

  • 240 university credits
  • Entry into the third year of the BSc programme

Completing the Matrix Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling achieves the following:

  • Matrix Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling

Joining the university programme through the Accreditation of Prior Learning Scheme will also gain you:

  • BSc (Hons) Integrative Counselling. (Middlesex University)
  • Ueligibility to become a UKCP Registered Psychotherapeutic Counsellor.
  • The required number of taught hours for accreditation with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
  • 360 university credits

For entrance to years 2 and 3 without having done the previous Matrix year(s), and to seek the university award please ask for APEL information. (Accreditation of Prior. Experiential Learning).

Personal Therapy requirements:

There is a requirement for all our students to be in therapy during training. A small proportion of these hours can be done prior to training. Please discuss your individual situation regarding hours of therapy at interview.

COURSE FEES FOR SEPTEMBER 2011 INTAKE

Matrix fees if choosing not to gain the degree but to achieve the Matrix awards

• Fees for Matrix Certificate year - Total of £2280 (£1840 + £368 VAT).
(Deposit of £552 is due 2 months prior to starting, remaining £1656 may be paid in monthly or termly instalments).

• Fees for Matrix Diploma year - Total of £3072 (£2560 + £512 VAT).
(Deposit of £552 is due 2 months prior to starting, remaining £2520 may be paid in monthly or termly instalments).

• Fees for Advanced Diploma year - Total of £3072 (£2560 + £512 VAT).
(Deposit of £552 due 2 months prior to starting, remaining £2520 may be paid in monthly or termly instalments).

• External assessments:
There is a fee for the Diploma external assessment of £150.
There is a further fee of £150 for the BSc (Hons) external assessment.

University fees if choosing to join the degree programme:
An additional fee will be requested by the university as a one off payment, irrespective of which year you join and for how many years you are with Matrix. For information about this please email or telephone the Director of Training Dr Susie Jones.

Estimate of extra financial commitments:

  • Indemnity insurance to practice: This is only necessary for private practice as when working for an agency /statutory organisation they are likely to already have insurance in place. This needs to be checked with your agency placement.
  • Personal therapy: 35 hours each year of training in order to gain the Advanced Diploma and BSC ( Hons). If joining through the APEL scheme past therapy hours are looked at individually. Some gained prior to the start of the course may be counted. Fees with individual therapists vary and many will negotiate a lower figure for students in training.
  • Supervision (only necessary when in counselling practice): One hour of supervision is recommended fortnightly whilst in training). Fees with supervisors vary and many will negotiate a lower figure for students in training.
    Most agencies now provide supervion free of charge.

All Matrix training fees can be paid in full or in instalments. The University fee must be paid at enrolment on the programme but may in certain circumstances be paid in 3 termly instalments.
